1. State which of the following sentences are Compound and which are complex:
(1) The building was destroyed by the earthquake but the whole family
was saved. (2) Looking behind, he saw a snake that was following him.
(3) If I do not pass the examination, I shall set up a grocer's shop. (4) He said
that he was so disappointed that he would not try again. (5) Not only was
he hardworking, but also possessed a robust constitution. (6) The army of
men who rule the world with their pens are masters of peoples and statesmen.
(7) He was exceedingly grateful and we parted from each other in the best of
moods. (8) The evil that men do lives after them. (9) All that glitters is not
gold. (10) He must not attempt to escape, or he will be put to death. (11) We
desire to succeed, therefore we work. (12) Neither the colour nor the design of
this cloth appeals to me.
II. In the compound sentences in Exercise 4.(1), separate the Co-ordinate
clauses and mention the Conjunctions connecting these clauses,
