1. Find the square of the following numbers by using the identities :

(b) 48

=( 20 + 2) ^2

= 20 ^2 + 2 x 20 x 2 + 2^2

= 400 + 80 + 4

= 484.

2) 48

= (40 + 8 )^2

= 40^2 + 2 x 40 x 8 + 8^2

= 1600 + 640 + 64

= 2304.

3) 94

= ( 90 + 4 )^2

= 90^2 + 2 x 90 x 4 + 4^2

= 8100 + 720 + 16

= 8836.

4) 999

= ( 900 + 99)

= 900^2 + 2 x 99 x 900 + 99^2

= 810000 + 178,200 + 9801

= 998,001.
