Solve the following pairs of linear (simultaneous) equations using method of elimination by
substitution:

8x + 5y = 9
3x + 2y = 4

Answer:

8x + 5y = 9...(1)

3x + 2y = 4...(2)

(2)  y=  9-8x/5

 3x + 2(9-8x/5)

15x + 18 - 16x = 20

x = -2

From (1), y= 9-8x/5 = 9-8(-2)/5 = 25/5

y=5
