Answer:

(i) (2,3)

Explanation:

(i) (2,3) and (4, 1)

(x1,y1) (x2,y2)

distance = √(x2 - x1) ^ + (y2 -y1)^

= √(4 - 2)^ + (1 -3)^

= √(2)^ + (-2)^

= √4 + 4

= √8 = 2√2

(ii) (-5,7) and (-1,3)

(x1,y1) (x2,y2)

distance = √(x2 - x1 )^ + (y2 - y1) ^

= √(- 1 +5 )^ + (3 - 7)^

= √(4)^ + (-4)^

= √16+16 = √32 = 4√2

(iii) (a, b) and (-a,-b)

(x1,y1) (x2, y2)

distance = √(x2-x1)^ + (y2 - y1 )^

= √(-a - a) ^ + (-b - b) ^

=√(-2a)^ + (-2b)^

=√4a^ + 4b^

= √4(a^ + b^)

= 2√a^ + b^
