→ What are direct speech?
✓ The words spoken directly by the speaker, without making any changes into it are known as direct speech. The words spoken by the speaker is always enclosed within double inverted commas (" ").
Eg:- I said, "I am very busy today."
→ What are indirect speech?
✓ The act of reporting a speech by making necessary changes to it is known as indirect speech. The inverted commas (" ") in this speech are removed.
Eg:- I said that I was very busy today.

Points to remember!!
↦Direct speech:-
- In a direct speech the first speech under inverted commas must be capital.
- The reporting verb and the direct speech must be separated using commas.
↦Indirect speech:-
- In indirect speech the tense of the reporting verb must not be changed.
- All kind of sentences should be converted into assertive sentence.
- Indirect speech must be introduced by characters like:- That, whether, if, about, etc.
- The comma separating the reporting verb and the speech must be removed.

Exceptions for reported speech (or indirect speech):-
The tense of the reported speech may not change of the narration is about a universal truth, habitual facts or historical facts.
