Given :-

A car covers 72 km in 2 hours.

A train covers 120 km in 3 hours.

To Find :-

The ratio of their speeds.

Analysis :-

Speed = Distance/Time

Using this formula find the speed of both car and train.

Write them in fractions and simplify it.

Solution :-

We know that,

  • d = Distance
  • t = Time

Given that,

A car covers 72 km in 2 hours.

By the formula,

\underline{\boxed{\sf Speed=\dfrac{Distance}{Time} }}

Substituting their values,

\sf Speed=\dfrac{72}{2} =36 \ km/hr

Therefore, the speed of the car is 36 km/hr

Finding the speed of train,

Given that,

A train covers 120 km in 3 hours.

\sf Speed=\dfrac{120}{3} =40 \ km/hr

Therefore, the speed of the train is 40 km/hr

Finding the ratio,

\sf Ratio=\dfrac{36}{40} =\dfrac{9}{10}

\sf Ratio=9:10

Therefore, the ratio of the speed is 9 : 10
