Correct Question -

Two figures are in the ratio of 5:6. If 5 is added to both the figures, the new ratio becomes

6:7. Find both the figures.

Given -

  • Two figures are in the ratio of 5:6.

  • If 5 is added to both the figures, the new ratio becomes
  • 6:7.

To find -

  • Both the figures.

Solution -

In the question, we are provided with the 2 ratios, and we need to find the figures. This question, is from the linear equation. First we will, name a common ratio, then we will add, 5 to those ratios, then we will make a fraction, and then we will do cross multiple, then we will take out the value of x, then we will multiply it by the ratios, and hence, the two, figures will come out. Let's start it!

So -

Let the common ratio be termed as x

5 = 5x

6 = 6x

After 5 is added -

5 = 5x + 5

6 = 6x + 5

Now -

We will make a linear equation, then we will covert it into fraction, then we will do, cross multiplication, and will find the value of x.

\longrightarrow \tt\dfrac{5x + 5}{6x + 5} = \tt\dfrac{6}{7}

\longrightarrow 7(5x + 5) = 6(6x + 5)

\longrightarrow 35x + 35 = 36x + 30

\longrightarrow 35 - 30 = 36x - 35x

\longrightarrow 5 = x

At the end -

We will find the value of two figures, by multiplying, 5x and 6x, with the value, we obtained.

\longrightarrow 5x = 5 × 5 = 25

\longrightarrow 6x = 6 × 5 = 30

\therefore The two figures are 25 and 30
