"A man is known by the company he keeps" is an age old proverb of wisdom. It means that the character of a person is revealed by the type of friends he mingle with. We are naturally inclined to be found with people having similar interests as our own.
A good person will not spend his time in the company of bad people. He or she will detests the company of criminals whose activities are bad and harmful to the society.
Good company is important for the image of a person in a community. We are often recognised by the society by the friends we keep. Our reputation in the society can be either bad or good according to the friends we keep.
There is great danger being constantly with bad company. They will influence us and made us become like them.
It takes years to build a good reputation and earn the respect and the trust of the people around us. But if we associate with bad company everything can be destroyed in a few moments. Hence, it is important for us to choose our friends carefully.

Man is a social animal. By nature, he cannot live alone. He always seeks the company of other people for the satisfaction of his needs. A man is usually judged by the kind of people he associated with, because to some extent, a person's tastes and preferences are influenced by the tastes and preferences of the people he spends time with.
For example, if a child is studious and blokes reading books and studying, he would make friends who have similar interests. Thus, a person's nature, likes, dislikes and preferences can be judged from the kind of people, he keeps company with.
