Answer:

Any elevated area, such as a mountain or an upland, which separates two drainage basins is known as water divide; for example, the water divide between the Indus and the Ganga river systems. Ambala is located on this water divide.

The three main river system of Himalayan river system are as under: Ganga river system. Indus river

ii) The Ganga Basin is the largest river basin in India. (iii) The river Indus rises in Tibet, near lake Mansarowar, and the Ganga originates at the Gangotri Glacier.

(iv) The two headstreams of the Ganga are the Bhagirathi and Alaknanda. They meet at Devaprayag in Uttarakhand to form the Ganga. (v) In Tibet, the river Indus known as Tsang Po carries a smaller volume of water and less silt as it is a cold and dry area.

The rivers of the Deccan Plateau are non- perennial because they depend only on rain for water and get dried up in summer due to absence of rain. The rivers are non navigable because they mainly flow through the hilly regions.
