Then y = 2x...(1)

Their original combined salary

= x+y = x+2x = 3x....(by (1))

Increment in X's salary =x×5 p.c.=x2

Increment in Y's salary = y×25 p.c. =y4

∴new salary of X =x+x 2 = 3x2and new salary of Y

=y+y 4 = 5y4

Their new combined salary =3x2+5y 4 =3x2+5

(2x)4=4x (.....by (1))

Increment is 4x−3x=x

∴ percentage of increment is x3x×100=3313 p.c.
