1. On 29th May 1453 Constantinople, the capital of the Eastern Roman Empire was conquered by Ottoman Sultan Mehmed II who led the Ottoman Turks. This brought an end of the Byzantine Empire which lasted for 1000 years.
2. Vasco da Gama discovered the sea route between India and Europe. He discovered this route via the Cape of Good Hope. He started his voyage from Lisbon, Portugal and reached after two years on 20th May 1948 on the Western sea coast of India at Kozhikode ( which is in Calicut), Kerala. He was the first European to have achieve the feat of reaching India via the sea.
3. Pondicherry was the capital of French in India. The territory of Pondicherry included the former French establishment Karaikal, Pondicherry, Yanam and Mahe which lies in South India. The French ruled Pondicherry for 138 years which later got merged on 1st November 1954 with the Indian Union. The Bay of Bengal lies to its east and Tamil Nadu on its three sides.
