EXPLANATION

  • There are four main types of Noun or pronoun cases, namely, Nominative case, Objective or accusative case, vocative case, and possessive case.

  • For example - The girl ate an orange.
  • In the above example, the girl is the subject of the sentence as it performing the action.
  • So, the noun, girl is in the nominative case.
  • Objective case - The noun is said to be in the objective case when it is used as the object in the sentence. That is, when the action is being performed on a person or thing, it is said to be the object of the sentence.
  • For example- Raj threw the ball outside the ground.
  • The noun ball is the object as the action (threw) is being performed on it. Ball is in the objective case.
  • Possessive case- The noun that shows ownership or possession of something in the sentence is said to be in the possessive case.
  • A possessive case is also known as genitive case.
  • For example - This is my father's pen
  • In the above sentence, the noun father's shows that the pen belongs to the father.
  • Therefore, father's is in possessive case.
