water goes in due to process of endosmosis (a type of osmosis)
the concentration of water inside cell is less than concentration of water outside the cell .
so the water goes in due to Osmosis(transfer of water from level if lower concentration to the level of higher concentration through a semi permeable membrane)

WHEN THE CELL IS KEPT IN TAP WATER , THE TAP WATER IS A STRONG (HYPERTONIC) SOLUTION, AND IT HAS A HIGHER WATER CONCENTRATION THAN THE CELL OR THE CELL HAS LESS CONCENTRATION OF WATER HENCE , ENDOSMOSIS TAKES PLACE RESULTING IN THE MOVEMENT OF WATER FROM TAP WATER INSIDE THE CELL.

but osmosis means travelling from low concentration to high concentration
so water should be lost frim cell
as cell is low concentrated
listen osmosis is of two types
