Hormones of pitutary gland and their function in short note

  • Growth hormone ( GH ) - Normal growth of body
  • Thyroid stimulating hormone  ( TSH ) - maintaining normal functioning of thyroid gland
  • melanocyte stimulating hormone ( MSH ) - help in proper secretion of melanin
  • Adrenocortico tropico hormone ( ACTH ) - normal functioning of adrenal gland
  • Follicle stimulating hormone ( FSH ) and lutenising hormone ( LH ) - reproductive functioning in males and females
  • prolactin -  milk secreting hormone

In addition pitutary gland store 2 hormones - oxytocin ( milk ejecting hormone) and vasopressin (  ADH), which is actually produced by hypothalamus

  • Location : Pituitary gland is located in the Brain near Hypothalamus.

  • Hormones of Pituitary gland control functioning of many other Hormones, so it is known as Master Gland.

  • It has two main parts : (1) Exterior part and (2) Posterior part

Some Hormones of Exterior part :

  • GH ( growth hormone ) or STH ( somatotropic hormone ) : It controls development of Bones and muscles.

  • TSH ( Thyroid stimulating hormone ) : It stimulates secretion of thyroxine hormone.

  • FSH ( Follicle stimulating hormone ) : It helps in maturation germ cells in Female and male.
