Introduction to the Heart ;
The human heart is one of the most important organs responsible for sustaining life. It is essentially a muscle, about the size of a clenched fist. The human heart functions throughout a person’s lifespan, pumping almost 200 million litre of blood.
Functions of the Human Heart ;
Functions of the human heart include pumping blood throughout the body. However, there are various types of circulation within the body. Primarily, two types of circulation exist, namely pulmonary circulation and systemic circulation.
Structure of the Human Heart ;
The human heart is about the size of our own fist and is mainly divided into four chambers namely two ventricles and two atria. The ventricles are the chambers that pump blood and atrium are the chambers that receive blood. Among which both right atrium and ventricle make up the “right heart,” and the left atrium and ventricle make up the “left heart.”
1) It pumps blood rich in carbon dioxide to the lungs and oxygen-rich blood to other parts of the body.
2)The heart consists of four chambers namely atria and ventricles. The two upper chambers of the heart are known as the atria. The two lower chambers of the heart are the ventricles.
3)Heart is made up of strong cardiac muscles. The rhythmic contraction and relaxation of the heart constitutes heartbeat.
