To expand : ( 2x + 1 )^{2}

Solution :

  • To expand the given expression , we use identity

       ( a+ b) ^{2}  = a^{2} + 2ab  +b^{2}

  • Here,  a = 2x and b  =1 .
  • Therefore , applying the above identity we get ,

        ( 2x + 1)^{2} = (2x )^{2}  + 2 ( 2x) ( 1) + (1 )^{2}

                       = 4x^{2} + 4x  + 1  \\

Hence , expansion of  ( 2x + 1 )^{2}  is 4x^{2} + 4x  + 1  \\ .
