Expand and simplify

3(y+4) + 5(y-2)

Answer:

 = 3(y + 4) + 5(y - 2) \\  = 3y + 12 + 5y - 10 \\  = 8y + 2 \\  8y = ( - 2) \\ y =  \frac{( - 2)}{8}  \\ y =  \frac{  ( - 1)}{4}

 = 3y + 12 + 5y + 10

 = 8y + 22

8y =  - 22

y =  \frac{ - 22}{8}
