This proverb talks about the idea that the things a person does not have always seem more appealing than the things they already have. It is a selfish tendency of humans to compare themselves with others and then feel bad about it. Another aspect of this can be that a person is never satisfied with their own situation, they always think what others have is better. The grass can be used as a metaphor for things, life situations and goals in life.
It is futile to carry this attitude as it may lead to negative emotions in the person. They might always feel unsatisfied with whatever they have and wish for something better. One must be grateful for everything they have and not crib over what they don’t. The proverb is not asking us to stop dreaming for better, but it wants us to be happy and satisfied with our life and not compare or feel jealous of the things others have. Many may have this envious feeling subconsciously.
It asks us maintain stability in life and stick to decision because the grass will always appear to be greener on the other side.
