Solution:

(x - y = 3)^2

After adding the 0 terms solutions, we get

= 0

But if this case....

Solution:

(x - y)^2 = 3

Solving 1st part (x - y)^2

Using the identity,

(A-B)^2 = A^2 - 2AB + B^2

Here A = x, B = y

= (x)^2 - 2(x)(y) + (y)^2

= x^2 - 2xy + y^2

Solving 2nd part

= 3

After adding the 2 terms solutions, we get

(x^2 - 2xy + y^2) - 3 = 0

= x^2 - 2xy + y^2 - 3

Hope this will help.
