A person must work hard in order to achieve the desired goals that he or she sets for himself or herself in life. There is no shortcut to success. But, if a person only works, life can get monotonous and boredom may set in. This could adversely affect his or her mental and physical faculties, leading to poor performance. Therefore, this adage is absolutely true as it is sometimes necessary to indulge in lighter functions like sports, games and other recreational activities in order to relax the mind and the body occasionally. By taking part in these activities, the person's performance is enhanced, in the absence of which dullness is likely to set in.
