Man is known by the company he keeps is a very old and well known proverb. It means that any persons reputation depends upon his or hers association of friends he has. Though it's also said man is known by his good deeds yet at the time good deeds are marred to bad company. Good company is also important for the image of a person in the society. There are numerous examples around us and in history on this proverb. The Prophet Muhammad is the biggest example. In fact our parents also wants that we should have good company, we should spend time with good friends and interact with good people. So it's just cleared that man is known by the company he keeps.

"A man is known by the company he keeps" is an age old and popular proverb of wisdom. It means that the character of a person is revealed by the type of friends he mingle with. In other words, if you want to know who a person really is, you only have to check the kind of friends he keeps.

Birds of the feathers flock together. Lambs don’t make friends with wolves, nor doves with hawks. A good person will not spend his time following or doing what bad people do. A righteous man detests the company of criminals whose activities are inhuman, immoral and detrimental to the society.

We are naturally inclined to other people whose interests are similar to our own. Having similiar point of views and outlook on life, the bond of friendship between them would be strengthened. Good company is important for the image of a person in a community.

Our parents teach us to avoid bad company. This is because we are likely to be influenced by our friends. Being constantly with bad company will influence us and made us become like them.

It takes years to build a good reputation. It takes years to earn the respect, the trust and the admiration of the people around us. But if we associate with bad company everything can be destroyed in a few seconds. Hence, it is important for us to choose our friends carefully.
