EXPERIMENT 3
Take a cardboard or wooden box with a
glass front. Fit two wide glass tubes in
holes at the top to form chimneys. Put
a small lighted candle below one of the
chimneys. Hold a smouldering piece of
paper at the top of the other chimney
(Fig. 3.3). See what happens. The air above
the candle gets heated and becomes
lighter. It rises up. The smoke from the
smouldering paper rushes into the box to
take the place of the warm air. Thus, air
currents are set up.

Answer:

The air near the lighted candle becomes warm and rises up through the chimney . As a result a temporary

vacuum is created in the box .To fill up the vacuum the smoke from the the incense stick moves dwn to take its place. Thus air currents are set up.
