Experiment No. 10
To verify the laws of reflection,
APPARATUS : A drawing board, a plane mirror with a support, drawing pins, common pins and protector
PROCEDURE :
1. Fix a sheet of paper on a drawing board using thumb pins (drawing pins) or adhesive tape.
2 Draw a line M, M, on it and mark 'O' as mid point of the line. Draw a perpendicular ON at 0
Draw a line PO such that ZPON = 30°. This line can be taken as incident ray.
3. Now place the plane mirror on the line M, M, with its reflecting surface normal to the plane of
paper Fox two pins A and B vertically on the line OP and then look into the mirror from the other
side of the normal to see the images A and B' of A and B respectively
4. Place two pins C and D. one by one, such that the imges A and B' and also C and D are in the
same straight line
5. Remove the pins C and D and join D and C which represents the reflected ray.
6. Measure the DON which will be approx. equal to 30"
7. Repeat the experiment changing the angles of incidence 'r' and noting down the angle of reflection
y each time
м.
