Answer:

Abstract:  In organic chemistry, the most important method of purifying a solid is crystallization. This experiment involved performing the steps of crystallization using the solid Benzil with methanol. The goal of this experiment was to purify the rudimentary compound of Benzil which will be done using a laboratory technique known as recrystallization. The seven steps of crystallization include choosing a solvent, dissolving the solute, decolorizing the solution, filtration, crystallization, collecting and washing the crystals, and drying the crystals. In this technique crystals are dissolved in methanol as the solvent, which is then filtered and cooled until the crystals re-solidify. The crystals were purified with a percent recovery. The percentage yield was 0.88 g.

answer:

Recrystallization is one of the most important methods used to purify solid organic compounds. The substance is dissolved in a minimum amount of hot solvent and crystallizes as the solution becomes saturated with respect to the substance, which happens as the solvent cools.
