When Zinc granules are taken in a beaker and sodium hydroxide (alkali )solution is added to it, Sodium zincate is formed and bubbles of Hydrogen gas are evolved.
The chemical reaction taking place is
Zn(s)+ 2NaOH (aq) → Na2ZnO2 (aq) + H2(g)
[In this reaction Zn being an amphoteric metal acts as an acid which reacts with a base.
