To prove that oxygen is used up in respiration

O to both the sample.

After few days,

Flask A: Greater rise in water level.

Flask B: No effect.

Oxygen was used up by germinating seed that was indicated by the rise of water level.

Step 2:

Burning paper is added in both the flask.

Flask A: Flame is immediately put off.

Flask B: Flame continues for a short while in the flask.

Oxygen is highly inflammatory.

Thus, flame was observed in flask B.

Thus, oxygen is used up in respiration.

Answer:

There are two answers to the question. Hope it is helpful.

Explanation:

The two reasons for the question are :

i) capillary action

ii) May be some amount of carbon dioxide was present in flask B causing the soda lime present over there to absorb it. This absorption of carbon dioxide by the soda lime creates partial vaccum over there which rises the water level in the delivery tube in Flask B (The flask which contains the dead seeds).
