Requirements:A water plant such as Hydrilla or Vallisneria,glowing splinter,a beaker,a funnel,a test tube.

PROCEDURE:

  • Place the water plant in the beaker filled with pond water,and cover it with a funnel.
  • Invert a test tube and place it in the funnel(Make sure that the water in the funnel is less than the water in the beaker).
  • Place the arrangement in sunlight. You will observe tiny bubbles accumulating at the end of the wall of the test tube.
  • Place the glowing splinter in the end of the test tube ,which will burn in flame indicating the presence of oxygen.

INFERENCE:This indicates that oxygen is necessary for photo- synthesis.
