Steps to follow:

• Take the conical flask and add the solution of KOH (Potassium hydroxide). KOH is used here to remove the Carbon dioxide inside the conical flask.

• Now using the hole in the cork insert the leaf into the conical flask and now place the conical flask in sunlight for some hours.

• Now test the leaf which was inside the conical flask and another leaf of the same plant by using iodine solution.

• You will observe that the leaf inside the flask does not change colour to blue-black whereas the other leaf of the plant turns into blue-black.

• So, carbon dioxide is necessary for photosynthesis in plants.

Observation:

• The exposed leaf to the atmosphere is in the colour of bluish black.

• The exposed leaf to KOH does not change the colour.

Result:

• The above observation indicates that starch is present in green part of leaf.

Conclusion:

• The presence of starch shows that chlorophyll is essential for photosynthesis.
