Experiment to study chemical changes by reaction of coppersulphate (CuSO4) with iron(Fe).⤵⤵

Aim :- Reaction b/w iron and copper sulphate solution.

Apparatus :- Two iron nails, sand paper, two test tubes, marked as A and B.

Chemicals :- 10ml of CuSO4.

Procedure:-

Take two iron nails clean them by rubbing with a sand paper.

Take two test tubes and mark them as A and B.

Take 10ml of CuSO4 in each test tube dip one iron nail in CuSO4 of test tube A and keep it undisturbed for 20 minutes.

Keep the iron nail aside.

Now,take out the iron nail from CuSO4 solution and compare with other nail has been kept aside.

Compare the colours of the two solutions.

Observation :- Iron nail dipped in the CuSO4 solution becoming brown. The colour of the CuSO4 in test tube A fades.

Result :- Displacement reaction.

Equation:-

Fe + CuSO4 =》 FeSO4 +Cu

Conclusion :- Iron is more reactive than copper so,it displaces cu from CuSO4.

Explained Answer:

EXPERIMENT TO STUDY CHEMICAL CHANGES BY THE REACTION OF COPPER SULPHATE SOLUTION WITH IRON.

AIM:

To study chemical changes by the reaction of copper sulphate with iron.

MATERIAL REQUIRED:

Iron nails, Copper Sulphate solution, stand and test tube.

THEORY:

The chemical reaction in which one element takes the position or place of another element in a compound according to the reactivity series.

PROCEDURE:

Firstly, rub an iron nail with sand paper so as to clean its surface. In the meantime, take about 25 ml of copper sulphate solution which is blue in colour in a conical flask. Then, place carefully the iron nail in the flask without disturbing. It can also be tied with the help of a thread to the support called stand. After sometime, observe the flask carefully and notice if there is any change just like the nail will acquire a brownish look and the blue colour of solution is converted into the solution of green colour.

REACTION:

CuSO4(aq) + Fe(s) -------> FeSO4(aq) + Cu(s)

RESULT:

* It shows that iron present in the nail has reacted with copper sulphate solution.

* The blue colour solution is converted into green colour solution.

* The copper sulphate is converted into iron sulphate because iron is more reactive than copper.
