Budding in hydra
Aim: Show budding in Hydra.
Materials required: Prepared slides of hydra showing budding with different stages, Compound microscopes 2-4.
Procedure:
- Place the slides in the microscope and set them with a full moon for a clear view.
- Now, observe all the slides in the microscope.
Observation: You will see a hydra in the first slide with tentacles and a smooth body. In the next slide, a small bud would be visible on the body of the hydra. That bud will now separate out and grow into a new hydra.
Result: A new hydra will form at the end of the experiment.
Precautions:
- Keep the slides clean.
- Make sure a full moon is obtained on the microscope for the slide, to have a clear view.
