Explanation:

To show that synthetic fibres are strong than cotton fibres

Synthetic fibres are stronger because they are made by plastics and other materials.Nylon is an example of synthetic fibre which is used for making parachutes and ropes for rock climbing.Activity -

Activity -Take threads of cotton and nylon(synthetic fibres) of about same length and thickness.. Hang cotton, thread from a stand. Attach a pan at the other end of the thread.Add weights, one by one, to the pan until the thread breaks (see fig.) note the total weight required to break the cotton thread. This gives a measure of the tensile strength of the thread. Repeat the same with nylon thread.

CONCLUSION

Much more weight is required to break the nylon thread showing that nylon thread has a grater strength that the cotton thread.

Answer:

Explanation:

ACTIVITY 1.2

AIM :- To observe a chemical reaction.

MATERIALS REQUIRED :- Two test tubes, lead nitrate, potassium iodide.

PROCEDURE :-

Take two test tubes and add lead nitrate and potassium iodide in the test tubes respectively to make a solution.

Now, add potassium iodide solution to the lead nitrate solution.

Observe the changes occurring.

OBSERVATION :- The solution changes into a bright yellow color.

CONCLUSION :- In a chemical reaction, the solution can change color.

ACTIVITY 1.3

AIM :- To observe a chemical reaction.

MATERIALS REQUIRED :- Zinc granules, conical flask or a test tube, dil. hydrochloric acid or sulphuric acid.

PROCEDURE :-

Take a conical flask and put some zinc granules in it.

Add dil. hydrochloric acid or sulphuric acid in it.

Observe the changes.

OBSERVATION :- The bubbles start coming out and the conical flask or the test tube becomes warm.

CONCLUSION :- The reaction is a single displacement reaction where zinc displaces the hydrogen to form hydrogen gas and the resulting colution is zinc chloride. Zinc reacts quickly with the acid to form bubbles of hydrogen.

hope this is helpful :)
