a) Hyenas are wild animals that hunt and scavenge for their food. They have a face that appears to be smiling. Merry means happy. So, hyenas come with happy smiles.

b) Crocodiles appear to cry. This is what makes them distinct from hyenas.  

c) A hyena always appears to smile and a crocodile always appears to shed tears. This is what makes the two animals different.  

d) The rhyming scheme of this stanza is abcc. The rhyming words are smiles-crocodiles.
