It is a special type of opening on the surface of the leaves. This helps in regulating the exchange of gases. It also helps in absorbing water from the surrounding or any kind of source such as rain .The excess of water which are present in leaves is removed by the process called transpiration .

Heat and cold can interfere with the normal function of Stomata which may impair the ability to receive or excrete water from the plant.

This can also be the source of entering pathogens in plants which may cause any infection in plants.
