1) The southwest monsoon winds break or burst over the Kerala coast in the beginning of June. The monsoon current is deflected by the peninsula. There are moisture laden winds which blow largely over Indian Ocean. These southwest winds which strike the west coast of India are called south west monsoon winds.
2)The Arabian Sea branch moves up northwards gradually along the west coast.
3)The bay of Bengal branch strikes the Arakan Mountains of Myanmar and gets deflected towards the Ganga-Brahmaputra Delta.
4)The south west monsoon season is the season of rainfall throughout the country except Tamil Nadu coast.About three-fourths of the total rainfall is received in the advancing monsoon season. However it does not rain continuously during this period. There are short spells of rain followed by clear skies and bright sunshine.
