Answer:

Farmers add multiple fertilizers to the soil from time to time. This replenishes the stock of nutrients in the soil which makes the crops grow better. But excess of chemical fertilizers results into an acidic soil, which, of course, is unhealthy for the plant's growth.

Another case can be acid rain. It adds to the acids inside of the soil and can harm the plant.

But the farmers save the plants from this 'crime' by using the concept of neutralization reaction. The farmers add bases to the soil, like quick lime and slaked lime, to neutralize the acids in the soil.

Sometimes, it may happen that the soil be too basic. Yet, the plants can be saved by adding compost, containing acidic substances, to the soil.

This way, the concept of neutralization enhances productivity..

Neutralization effect

There are substances called acids and bases. Acids are sour in taste and bases bitter and soapy.

Neutralization is the reaction between an acid and a base.

Acid + base ⟶ Water + salt.

A neutralization reaction also produces heat.
