The average atomic mass of an element is the sum of the massesof its isotopes, each multiplied by its natural abundance (the decimal associated with percent of atomsof that element that are of a given isotope).

After the discovery of isotopes, many elements started having different atomic masses due to their isotopes.
But for one element there should be one atomic mass. Hence, to solve this problem, the concept of average atomic mass came into play, so that a particular element can have a single atomic mass instead of different atomic masses...
