The plants which have roots above the ground are called Aerial plants. Their roots are exposed to the air almost most the time or always. These adventitious roots serve the same purposes as roots in the ground, and are the adaptative features to survive in particular places.

Examples - orchids, ferns, mangroves, ivy, etc.
