There are eight planets in our solar system, they are Mercury,Venus,Earth,Mars,Jupiter,Saturn,Uranus and Neptune.
A planet is a celestial body that
(a)is in orbit around the sun,
(b)has sufficient mass for its self gravity to overcome rigid body forces so that it assumes a hydrostatic equilibrium shape, and
(c)has cleared the neighbourhood around its orbit.

Mercury:
Mercury is the closest planet to the sun and due to its proximity it is not easily seen except during twilight.
Our weight on mercury would be of our 38% of our weight on earth.
Mercury is the second hottest planet.

Venus:
Venus is the second planet from the sun and is the brightest object in the night sky after the moon.
The surface of the planet is obscured by an opaque layer of clouds made up of sulphuric acid.
Venus rotates in the opposite direction to most other planets.
It is also known as morning star and evening star.
It is the hottest planet.

Earth:
It is also known as planet to support life.
Earth.
Earth has a powerful magnetic field.
It has one natural satellite i.e moon
Earth is the densest planet in our solar system.

Mars:
It is the second smallest planet and also known as red planet.
It has thin atmosphere composed primarily of carbon dioxide
Mars has the largest dust storms in the solar system.

Jupiter:
It is made primarily of gases and is therefore known as gas giant.
Jupiter has a thin ring system.
Jupiter's moon Ganymede is the largest moon in the solar system.
Jupiter is the fourth brightest object in the solar system.

Saturn:
Saturn is the second largest planet and is best known for its fabulous ring system.
Saturn is the flattest planet.
Saturn has 150 moons and smaller moonlets.
Saturn is made mostly of hydrogen.

Uranus:
It is the first planet discovered with the use of telescope.
Uranus is often referred to as an 'ice giant' planet.
Uranus has two sets of very thin dark coloured rings.
Uranus hits the coldest temperatures of any planet.

Neptune:
It is the eighth planet from the sun making it most distant in the solar system.
Neptune spins on its axis very rapidly.
The atmosphere of Neptune is made of hydrogen and helium and some methane.
Neptune has 14 moons.
