Answer:

Chlor-alkali processing is essentially the electrolysis of sodium chloride (NaCl), allowing for the creation of chlorine and sodium hydroxide, along with hydrogen. All three of these chemicals have many large-scaleindustrial applications. The chlor-alkali processmakes use of brine and a membrane cell.

Answer:

when electricity is passed through an aqueous solution of sodium chloride called brine, it decomposes to form sodium hydroxide the process is called the chloro alkali process because of the product formed that is chlor for chlorine and alkali for sodium hydroxide

the reaction for the following process is-:

2NaCl + 2H2O —→ 2NaOH + Cl2 +H2

the three products produced in this process are all very useful.

Cl2– water treatment, PVC, disinfectants, CFC, pesticides

H2–fuels, ammonia for fertilizers

NaOH– degreasing metals, soap and detergents, paper making, artificial fibres.
