Hi.

here is your answer. .

● Cytokinins are the substance which stimulate cell division. i.e. cytokinsis, therefore called cytokinins.

● Skoog and miller 1955 discover substance which stimulate cell division while working on tissue culture in tobacco.

● Cytokinins are the derivatives of a purine nitrogen base called adenine.

● These are naturally synthesised by the young plants organ like root tips, leaves etc. where active cell division occurs.

● Coconut milk is a rich source of cytokinins.

● Cytokinins induced cell division. Along with auxin it can induced cell division permanen cell.

●During callus formation, cytokinins and auxin accelerate the rate of mitosis.

● A balanced combination of cytokinins and auxin is useful for inducing organogenisis. More auxin than cytokinins initiate rhizogenesis and relatively less auxin initiate caulogenesis .

● Chloroplast formation is also initiated by cytokinins in presence of light.

hope it helps you. ☺

Hey !!

  • Cytokinins are known to promote cytokinesis (cell division).
  • Kinetin was first isolated from degraded sample of DNA.
  • Zeatin is the first natural cytokinin isolated from maize endosperm.
  • Cytokinins are synthesised in roots as well as stems.
  • It is responsible for cell division, cell enlargement  prevention of senescence (Richmond Lang effect) and enzyme synthesis.
  • Auxin-cytokinins ratio causes root-shoot initiation.
  • Cytokinins also promote flowering in short day plant.

GOOD LUCK !!
