  • The dry deciduous forests are found in tropical dry climate areas. Deciduous means trees found here shed leaves climatically in hot climate and puts on new leaves. Most of trees are stunted, thorny, and with small leaves. Plants are xerophytic and hardy in nature. Canopy open and sunlight falls on ground. So plenty of shrubs, herbs and grass. This type of forests habitat good for many herbivores and carnivores. Climate is dry, deciduous is shedding of leaves therefore they are dry deciduous forests.

  • Dry deciduous forests are found in the regions that receive precipitation between 70 and 100 cm.

  • These forests are found in the rainier parts of the peninsular plateau and the plains of Bihar and Uttar Pradesh.

  • As the dry season begins, the tress of deciduous forests shed their leaves completely.

  • Tendu, palas, amaltas, bel, khair, axlewood, etc. are the major tress of dry deciduous forests.

  • There are open stretches in which Teak, Sal, Peepal, and Neem grow.

  • Common animals found are lion, tiger, pig, deer and elephant. Variety of birds, lizards, snakes, amd tortoises are also found here.
