Explain about female reproductive system of cockroach !

Female Reproductive System of cockroach.

It consists of :

Two large ovaries − formed by a group of 8 ovarioles; contain chains of developing ovaOvary lies laterally in the 2nd to 6th abdominal segments.

Oviducts of each ovary unite into a single median oviduct (vagina)

.Vagina opens into the genital chamber.

A pair of spermathecae is present in the 6th segment.

. FEMALE REPRODUCTIVE SYSTEM

  • It consists of a pair of ovaries , oviducts , vagina , spermathecae, colleterial gand and genital pouch.

. OVARIES

  • A pair of large ovaries are present laterally in 2,3,4,5,6 segments surrounded by fat bodies.
  • Each ovary has eight ovarioles.
  • Each ovariole has tapering part, the germarium and wider pary , the vitellarum.
  • Germarium has ova at different stages of developement.
  • Vitellarium has mature ova with yolk.

. OVIDUCTS

  • The ovarioles unite to for a short wide oviducf vagina.
  • The oviducts open into a short median vagina.
  • Female genital pore is a vertical slit in vagina.
  • Spermathecae consists of a left sac and right filament in 6th segment which opens on a spermathecal papilla in dorsal part of genital pouch.

. COLLETERIAL GLANDS

  • A pair of colleterial glands are present behind ovaries opening into genital pouch.
  • Their secretion forms egg case or ootheca around eggs.
  • Genital pouch is formed 7th , 8 th and 9th sternum.
  • 7th sternum forms the floor of the pouch.
  • 8th sternum forms the anterior wall of the pouch.
  • 9th sternum forms anterior roof of the pouch.
  • Anterior part of genital pouch is the gynatrium and posterior part is oothecal chamber.
  • Gonapophyses are three pairs of plate like chitinious structures around female genital pore.
  • Gonapophyses act as ovipositord and help in copulation.
