Inertia is the resistance of any physical object to any change in its state of motion; this includes changes to its speed, direction, or state of rest. It is the tendency of objects to keep moving in a straight line at constant velocity.

Inertia is that property of an object due to which the object resist any change in its state.

The Newton's first law of motion is also know as "law of inertia".

There are three types of inertia:-

• Inertia of Rest
• Inertia of Motion
• Inertia of Direction

For example:-

A person sitting inside a moving vehicle is in motion alongwith the vehicle. On suddenly applying brakes of a moving vehicle, the vehicle comes to a halt, the lower body of the person which is in contact with the seat comes to rest immediately while the upper body remains in motion due to inertia. Hence, the person sitting inside the vehicles bend forward.
