Nυcłєσłυs :

It is a membrane less darkly stained rounded structure present in the nucleoplasm , also known as plasmosome .

  • The content of nucleolus is continues with the rest of the nucleoplasm .

  • Nucleus may contain one or two or many nucleoli.

  • Nucleolus was first observed by Fontona .

  • Nucleolus develops from nucleolar organizer which is the secondary constriction of the nucleolar organizing chromosomes .

  • Larger and more numerous nucleoli are present in cells actively carrying out protein synthesis.

  • Nucleolus disappears during prophase and reappears during telophase during cell division.
