A plasmodesma (pluralplasmodesmata, singular plasmodesma) is a channel through the cell wall that allows molecules and substances to move back and forth as needed. ... If you were to look at a cutaway of a plant cell, you would see these plasmodesmata connecting to the cells adjacent to them.

All cells that make up an organism be it plant or an animal , need to communicate with each other  to give  a coordinated system .

In plant cells such a connection is established with the  help of  microscopic structures called as Plasmodesmata . They connect  the cytoplasmic material of two adjacent cells , making a path which  enabels  the transfer or exchange of food and water .
