Pseudostratified columnar epithelia are tissues formed by a single layer of cells that give the appearance of being made from multiple layers, especially when seen in cross section. The nuclei of these epithelial cells are at different levels leading to the illusion of being stratified.

Properties of pseudo-stratified epithelium are :-

*This tissue is a modification of the columnar epithelium which has long and short cells.

*Nucleus is present on different levels of the cells are thus appears to be bilayered.

*The name is pseudo whose meaning is false because it appears to be bilayered but actually it is unilayered.

*Some of the cells are very short to reach the surface while all the cells are present on the single basement layer.
