A real-time system is a computer system in which the correctness of the systembehavior depends not only on the logical results of the computations but also on thetime when the results are produced. Real-time systems usually are in strong interaction with their physical environment.
A single computer can also be viewed as a distributed systemin which the central control unit, the memory units, and the input-output channels are separate processes. A system isdistributed if the message transmission delay is not negligible com- pared to thetime between events in a single process.
