explain about respiration briefly?
Answers
Explanation:
The process of respiration involves inhalation and exhalation. During inhalation, the pressure in lungs is lower than the atmospheric pressure, so the air is drawn into the lungs from outside through nostrils. Similarly, when the pressure inside the lungs is more then the atmospheric pressure the air is released out , this is known as exhalation. The exchange of gases takes place at the alveolar surface. During inhalation, the diaphragm contracts, lifting the ribs upwards and increasing the volume of thoracic chamber. During exhalation, the diaphragm and ribs come back to their original position thereby decreasing the volume of thoracic chamber.
The inhaled oxygen enters blood via capillaries through diffusion and combines with the hemoglobin pigment present inside it. In this way oxygen is transported to different body parts through blood.
