Methane : Here carbon undergoes SP3 hybridization to form four equivalent SP3 hybrid orbitals. These are oriented towards four corners of a tetrahedron with an angle of 109.5 degree. All hybrid orbitals over lap with half s-orbital of H- atoms and form C-H sigma bonds.

Ammonia (NH3): Here 2s and three 2p orbitals of nitrogen atom hybridize to give four equivalent SP3 hybrid orbitals. out of four hybrid orbitals, three hybrid orbitals contaning one unpaired electron overlap with singly occupied s- orbital of hydrogen to form three N-H sigma bonds.
