when NaCl ( common salt) is dissolved in water , sodium ion and chlorine ion seperate as Na+ and Cl - respectively.
the positively charge Na ions are attracted by negatively charged cathode.At cathode Sodium ions gain one electron to form neutral sodium atome . Chlorine ions lose one electron each at positively charged anode to form neutral chlorine atoms.
